13U go 2-2 @ the Universal Challenge:

The 13U GameTime Cougars are battling some injuries and brought a light roster to the Universal Challenge @ FDU in Hackensack. They split the weekend with a 2-2 record. Their first game against the 13U IYB team was an easy win with AVA SKINNER and ALLI STRAUSS having 13 points a piece.  The GameTime team held the IYB girls to 21 points and brought in 44 of their own for a solid victory. The second game Saturday was against the NJ BLAST. Kelly Svorinic's game high of 13 points was not enough to beat the blast. The gametime cougars lost 31-35, splitting the games for Saturday 1-1.

Sunday they faced the other NJ BLAST team in the tournament. Our record against the NJ BLAST this season was 0-3 going into this game. The Cougars put a team effort to bring home a win with a final 35-31. Kelly Svorinic had a game high again with 13 points! The final game of the tournament was against the 14U NJ MAVERICKS. Caitlin Roche and Kelly Svorinic brought in 11 points each but the team fell to the Mavericks with a 34-45 final. Kelly Svorinic had 45 points for the weekend in 4 games. Paulus To Play Football At Syracuse

After four years as Duke’s point guard, Greg Paulus is headed back home–to play football.

The upstate New York product announced Thursday that he will use a fifth year of NCAA eligibility to play quarterback at Syracuse, where he will likely attend the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The 2005 Gatorade National Player of the Year in football said he preferred Syracuse because of its proximity to his home and because it represented a chance to play at a high level.

“Syracuse has a lot of great things about it,” Paulus said. “With me being from there, you grow up in a culture and understand that there are a lot of great opportunities out there. After taking my visit and a few other visits, my gut and my heart were just telling me… that was the best place for me.”

In the past month, Paulus visited Michigan, Nebraska and Syracuse before opting to play for head coach Doug Marrone. Paulus enters a precarious quarterback situation, and he might be able to make an impact immediately. He will compete for the starting job with redshirt freshman Ryan Nassib and senior Cameron Dantley, neither of whom is an established quarterback.

Paulus, who grew up about five minutes from  Syracuse’s campus, said Marrone made no guarantees or promises about playing time, and that he is looking forward to the opportunity to get back into football shape and break into Marrone’s pro-style offense.

“It’s something where, I guess, you don’t know the future,” Paulus said. “I want to help Syracuse, I want to come back home and make a positive difference, an impact. My objective is to help the team and to help Syracuse. Whatever Coach Marrone would like me to do, then that’s what I’ll do.”

Paulus said he will return to Syracuse in the next two days and begin to file the paperwork required to attain an NCAA waiver and formally apply for graduate school. Duke does not have a graduate communications school, which is one of the prerequisites for getting the waiver.

Paulus said he received interest from about two dozen football teams, and that there were some chances to continue his basketball career, but he couldn’t resist the urge to get back on the gridiron any longer.

“It got me thinking, got me throwing again, and once I got doing that, the itch and the desire came back, and it’s something that I’m  really excited about,” he said. “To have this opportunity, where I love two sports, and to be able to do them both at the college level,  it’s something that is pretty nique and special and I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to do that.”

11U SQUEAK BY

Monday Night the 11U squeaked by the EDGE, out of River Edge NJ with a score of 18-14 advancing their record to 5-1. The defense was tight from both teams making it a low scoring game, Dana Shulman had a game high of 6 points, Carly Comito and Ali Funtsch backed Dana up with their 8 points combined.

The 11U team is a very young squad with a lot of potentially, they are ultimately forming into the GAMETIME system with the pressure defense converting into their transition offense. Morgan Bade plays a huge role as a starter and pressuring the offense into committing a turnover.

8 out of the 13 gametime cougar 11U players are returning players who have been playing with us all season long. This year we are entering the team into two NJ AAU Tournaments, they will head to the PALADINS SHOOT OUT the first week in JUNE, then they wrap up their season @ the Vivian Stringer AAU Tournament down @ Rutgers University June 20th - 21st.

Good Luck to the 11U GAMETIME TEAM!

Dana Shulman had a game high and a season high thus far with 16 points. Monday, May 4th they tipped off against the NCMP Hoopsters and only gave up 5 points! The Cougars closed out with 32 points (final 32-5). Morgan Bade had the game high with 9 points. In two games DANA SHULMAN, a sixth grader from Hillsdale has brought in 24 points!

13U Come To Compete!

The 13U opened the Rockland Royals Rumble this weekend with a 50 to 25 win over the Westchester Hoopers Saturday morning. Cate Slepian led the team with 12 points for the game. The wrapped up saturday with a nail biter against the New Rochelle Future Stars. They battled back from a 11 point spread early in the second half to pull away with a 3 point victory (44-41). Taylor Farro had a game high of 16 points to help gain the victory. Ava Skinner helped by providing double digits with 11 points.

Sundays game a big test when they faced the NJ BLAST, the division II state champions. The GameTime Cougars already fell to the Blast late in April in the NJ STATE TOURNAMENT after a 3 game wining streak. The Cougars kept the lead for most of the game and AVA SKINNERS game high of 17 points was not enough as they fell 36-39 against the BLAST. They quickly bounced back that afternoon with a W full of team effort over the Shooting Stars. The final was 44 - 39. Ava Skinner has another game high of 13 points and Cate Slepian backed the show with a solid 12 points. Skinner had 45 points for the 4 game weekend. Over All a great weekend!

Rockland Roylas Rumble:

The 12U Gametime Cougars stop at the FAMOUS new city diner for some EATS:

The 12U girls went 3-1 this weekend @ the well renown Rockland Royals Rumble, in Rockland County, NY.

Saturday they defeated the Hudson Valley Nights and the Rye Brook Rebels.

Sunday they were handed their second loss this season from the Gym Ratz. They had a chance to tie with a desperation shot at the end of the game with 1.5 seconds left, but fell short with a missed shot and losing by a total of 3 points. Lesko's 14 points were just not enough to pull away. They ended the tournament Sunday afternoon with a victory over the Westchester Hoopers. They pulled away this weekend with a 3-1 record and an over all 8-2 record.

The 12U roster will have off until the end of the month where they will head to Maryland for the Charm City Shoot Out.
